Sex toys that have appeared in mainstream movies

No longer are sex toys hidden away in seedy sex shops; today they seem to be everywhere including many mainstream movies. The breakthrough into polite society was to a large extent a result of “Sex in the City” which achieved for the Bunny vibrator that kind of popularity that Delia Smith achieved for cookware. Here is a selection of mainstream movies that have featured some kind of sex toy.

Lock stock and Two Smoking Barrels

The British comedy crime thriller “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” was written and directed by Guy Ritchie. It tells the story of a heist revolving round a fixed game of three card brag on which Eddy loses half a million pounds. The film stars Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham.

Two kinds of sex toys feature in the movie. The first is a studded paddle that is used for spanking and the other various dildos. In one scene features scene Harry beating up Smithy with a fifteen inch black rubber dildo; in fact he beats him to death with it, which is considered in the movie to be an easy way to go.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” was written and directed by Kevin Smith who is hardly quiet about his love of fleshlights (grab a discount with this link). It is a fairly gentle sex comedy that starred Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as Zack and Miri who are two long term friends. They run out of money and Zack, who spent the remaining credit on his credit card on a sex toy, agrees with Miri that they should make a porno movie.

Boogie Nights

Boogie Nights was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie tells the story of Eddie Adams (who is played by Mark Wahlberg) and how he rises to become a popular porn star from his humble beginnings as kitchen hand. There is a great deal of simulated sex in the film, but what few people know is that the 12 inch phallus that made Eddie Adams so famous was a strap on dildo plus some judicious video editing.

Burn after Reading

The black comedy “Burn after Reading” was one of the Coen brothers more risqué movies. It starred a host of first rate actors including George Clooney, Brad Pitt Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, and Tilda Swinton, but the real star of the movie was what must be the ultimate sex toy; a rocking chair with a built in dildo that moved up and down as the chair rocked to and fro.

Me, Myself & Irene

“Me, Myself & Irene” was directed by the Farrelly brothers. It starred Jim Carrey and Renée Zellweger and told the story of Charlie, a state trooper who goes a little crazy and emerges with a brand new personality called Hank. In one scene the picnic provisions in the boot of the car turn out to be a large dildo and a bottle of wine; it is looking like a fun type of picnic.

9 Songs

9 Songs was written and directed by Michael Winterbottom. It takes place over a period of time that is marked by 9 songs that are performed by various bands at the Brixton Academy where Margo Stilley’s character Lisa and Kieran O’Brien’s character Matt first meet. The film is all about their relationship and features a great deal of real sex; very unusual for a mainstream movie. It achieved critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival; if you enjoy sex and rock music it is a must. Sex toys featured include a soft bondage kit that is used very imaginatively and a vibrator that Margo Stilley uses to excellent effect. Understandably there are no clips we can show you of this!

My Best Friend’s Girl

“My Best Friends Girls” is the last of our selection of top sex toys in mainstream movies, but there are plenty more for you to find. This movie was a romantic comedy made by Howard Deutch and although it wasn’t the best example of its genre, scoring only 14% on Rotten Tomatoes and Kate Hudson being nominated for a Razzie Award as worst actress, it did score quite highly on the dildos; in fact the movie featured large quantities of them. A little surprisingly it was a box office success and in total the movie grossed over $40 million.
